Best known for his wonderfully anarchic humour and stylish artwork, Russell's brilliantly funny illustrations feature in over 60 titles. He has won many prizes including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Booktrust Early Years Award and the Nestle Children’s Book Prize Gold Award, and has twice been shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
His Captain Flinn picture book series (Puffin), written by Giles Andrea, is now a prime time TV animation series, and The Cow That Laid an Egg series by Andy Cutbill (HarperCollins), was recently made into a BBC Christmas Special on which Russell was Art Director.
In an exciting new move, Russell is now also writing, with his first self-authored picture book, Henry and the Yeti, picked as The Sunday Times Children's Book of the Week and described as 'elegant, stylish and deliciously comic.' The Match and Cats and Robbers (Bloomsbury) followed swiflty behind and Mouse in the House (Andersen) publishes in 2020.
Recent titles include The Wolf Who Cried Boy by James O'Neill (Puffin), Whoops! by Suzi Moore (Templar) and Old Misery (Kids Can).
Russell lives with his family near Penzance in Cornwall.
