After graduating with a first class degree in illustration from UWE, Lauren began her career by illustrating the prize-winning Anna Hibiscus series of fiction and picture books (Walker Books). Widely acclaimed, titles from the series have been listed in Time Out New York's Top 50 Best Books for Kids, have won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards Honor Book for Excellence and, in January 2018, were endorsed by the New York Times. The most recent picture book, Double Trouble for Anna Hibiscus, was named an 'Honor' book in the Children's Africana Book Awards 2016.
Lauren’s work is noted for her warm, humorous portrayal of contemporary family life, and is filled with very real people in bustling urban scenes. In contrast, Are Your Sure Mother Bear? (Candlewick) showcases her love of nature and features a vast snowy landscape and a bear family settling in for hibernation.
Other titles include: Let's Go to Nursery, Let's Go to The Farm and Let's Go to the Seaside (Walker First Experiences series), and Babies Don't Walk, They Ride (Templar) which was shortlisted for both the Dundee Picture Book Award and the Sheffield Baby Book Award 2016.
Based in Bristol, when Lauren is not drawing or painting, you will find her at her allotment drinking tea instead of weeding.
