Gareth Peter Dicks
It was a performance of 'Oliver!', when Gareth was eight years old, which inspired his love of storytelling and musicals. He began writing at a very early age and this led to a career as a composer and lyricist for the theatre. He created the musical Escape, which premiered in 2004 and Bluebird, whose album has sold all over the world. His songs have been performed on stage and by West End and Broadway voices across the UK and internationally.
In 2004 Gareth set up the Broadway School of Performing Arts, a part time theatre school, to share his passion with young people. They premiered many of Gareth’s musicals and plays and several students have since taken up a career in the performing arts world.
It was the arrival of his own children that inspired Gareth to begin writing picture books. Reading with them is a treasured pastime and he wants to be part of the reason children love books. He now employs his understanding of rhyme and rhythm, crafted through years of song writing, to create stories that are a delight to read aloud.
Gareth lives in Nottingham with his partner, two huskies and two beautiful adopted children. He loves stories, castles, roller-coasters and baking…and hopes to one day write a book based on all four. His favourite colour is purple.
