Daniel Whelan was born in the North of England but grew up on the North Wales coast. He has a degree in acting and has written two plays. His adaptation of Richard Adams's Watership Down was deemed by Mr Adams as one of the best he'd read. A Harlot's Progress was based on the etchings of William Hogarth and, though Mr Hogarth was too dead to give his opinion, Time Out gave it an alright review.
Daniel is much happier being a novelist than an actor or playwright. His first novel, Box of Demons won Macmillan’s inaugural Write Now Prize and was published in summer 2015. With an incredible 3-D cover by Children's Laureate Chris Riddell, the hardback edition was sold exclusively through independent book shops. The paperback edition, which publishes in January 2016, will be available through all retailers. Daniel is currently working on a sequel to Box of Demons which promises to be even more hilarious...
