Charlie grew up in the North East of Scotland by the sea where he spent his days roaming fields with his dog, dreaming of life as a writer. All seemed to be going to plan when, in his twenties, his debut ‘lad lit’ novel was published by Transworld to some success. But then life and a hectic career took over and his focus became his growing family and a day job in London.
Now based in Dorset he is by the sea again, this time with a ready audience of four kids and time to focus on his real passion – writing for children.
Charlie works across all genres - picture books, longer fiction and film - as suits the story. He is a man of many talents and his style ranges from beautifully crafted lyrical rhyming picture books to madcap adventures for the middle grade with clever plots, oodles of suspense and a strong contemporary voice and characters. A lover of the great outdoors, much of his writing is influenced by nature.
A Twit for Twoo, the first of two picture books, will be published by Orchard Books in 2017. Charlie is currently working on two middle grade novels and many new picture book ideas.
